Poero santo, July 2022, Autobiographic Description of the Fabulation Process.

Inspiration and choosing a point of view (Figure 1); noticing and indexing (Figure 2); fabulation (Figure 3); and turning the fabulation into affirmative and positive worlding (Figures 2, 3).

This fabulation starts with sketching and noticing at the beach near the port of the Island. This is the locals’ beach; fewer tourists come here. Two initial sketches were performed and exchanged for annotation, noticing, and indexing (each author drew and then gave the sketch to the other author, who annotated).

When sketching and noticing felt complete, we started to fabulate as a form of shared oral storytelling. The fabulation is initially quite bleak and pessimistic. It features an algae spill from the green tubes of the port's CO2 algae production experiment. The algae spill into the sea and negatively affect the local biodiversity. One researcher starts to visually represent the fabulation, inspired by the toolkit of fluorescent colours at hand.

Figure 3: Fabulation Fluorescent 1

The algae spill becomes a fluorescent stain in the sea, it could seem like a dangerous, polluting spot. Conscious of the need for affirmative fabulations, the authors focus on the beauty of this fluorescent patch in the sea. They think aloud about how beautiful that might look from above - how planes could fly over the island at night just to see the beautiful, dramatic effect (Figure 4), maybe tourists could visit the island for this phenomenon. One author produces a visual sketch to visualise the aesthetic power of the spill and inspire a positive take on the event of a spill. Moreover, the fluorescent algae would allow terrestrial and marine species to see each other and make kin. Inspired by the dog running on he beach and staring at the sea, we imagine the dog being able to see the fish in the water just a few meters away. One of the authors just encountered the local pig fish known by its pinching bite, which signals the presence of the human, trying to take a small bit of the human flesh. By seeing each other, the different species (dogs and fish) would develop new ways to relate and communicate (Figures 3 and 4).

Finally, the fluorescent water could be channeled into transparent tubes to light up the island and the city, and returned to the sea, saving energy and carefully bringing species around to get to know each other, and inspire curiosity, nourishing care and respects among species.
